This is a great coffee maker. The display is easy to use and for the first time I am actually programing for our morning coffee to be ready when we awake. The size does not take up unneeded space and it has great style and eye appeal. I love the blue display and how the maker looks on the counter. It is easy to clean and work. Two issues: first the hour display reverts to “00″ during the brew cycle and I went through three pots and had the same issue; second I like stronger coffee and this lovely little maker does not make the really strong coffee I personally like, however my husband does not like my stronger coffee so he is enjoying the maker. I am keeping the pot even with the “00″ hour dislay during the brew cycle, disapointed with by it but like the maker enough to over look this.

THIS PRODUCT CAME IN THE MAIL POORLY CONSTRUCTED. THE SECTION THAT HOLDS THE COFFE BASKET DID NOT LINE UP WITH THE REST OF THE COFFEE MAKER AND THE LID, WHICH IS SUPPOSED TO SNAP SHUT BARELY DOES SO BECAUSE OF THE MISMATCHED CONSTRUCTION. A TUBE IN THE WELL FOR THE WATER HAS A TUBE TO READ THE NUMBER OF CUP OF WATER WHEN FILLED. THE TUBE IS SWAYED, NOT STRAIGHT UP AND DOWN AND DOES NOT MATCH THE NUMBER OF CUPS IN THE CARAFE. SO IF THE CARAFE SAYS 8 CUPS , THE TUBE SAYS 6. THAT SAID IT MAKES DECENT COFFEE AND I DID NOT WANT TO HAVE TO PACK IT UP TO SEND BACK SINCE IT DOES NOT GO BACK TO AMAZON. I ALSO WISH THE COFFEE WAS HOTTER, BUT IT IS AS HOT AS ANY OTHER COFFE MAKER I TRIED. MY RESEARCH SHOW THERE IS NO COMMERCIAL DRIP COFFE MAKER OUT THAT MAKES COFFEE AS HOT AS IT SHOULD BE.

Vienna Plus is my third fully automatic machine. I loved my first, Saeco original Vienna, hated the second, Saeco Incanto classic. The original Vienna worked for 3 years every day, making consistently good espresso before the pump gave. I should have paid for repair, but I succumbed to that stainless steel twinkle and went for Saeco Incanto classic. More expensive for sure. Worse, better said inconsistent, coffee quality, constant small problems relating to built quality concerning the brew group, the grinder and the steamer wand. After a year of irritation a pump seal has failed while making espresso, nothing like a small explosion in the kitchen in the morning, I tell ya. Well, gone back to the trusted Vienna, now with the plus in the name. Good old days are here again …. Compared to previous- it is a lot quieter, when both grinding and steaming, it is also a lot quicker to warm up then before, steam is ready a mere 15 seconds after pushing the button. Espresso has a beautiful rich crema right out of the box, I didn’t have to experiment with grind setting at all. The steaming wand (Panarello) has been redesigned and is now foolproof maker of perfect frothed foam. For the newbie I would like to add that I spent a lot of effort to find the right roast – tasted more than a few before I settled on one (Peerless Coffee Espressp Perfection) that I buy now in 5 lb. bags and keep in the freezer. I should for fairness add that I never want any other coffee through the machine like some decaf or flavored stuff, so I don’t miss the alternate ground coffee option that Incanto had. My priority has always been flavor and consistency and that the Vienna Plus delivers. My friends drive miles to “see me” and, by the way, get a cup of espresso, praising each one as “this is the best espresso in the world”. If that is what you desire, don’t get mesmerized by stainless steel shine or computerized display magic and save yourself some money by getting this machine. You won’t regret it. And I am unanimous in that.

I almost always look at Amazon reviews before I buy anything these days. Shopping for an espresso maker with this method was extremely frustrating because the reviews for most machines are all over the map. The same machine will be loved by some, hated by others. This seems to be because people are looking for different things. The would-be barristas (why would anyone dream of working at Starbucks?) want all the bells and whistle and others just want the basics. For me, this machine does a pretty good job of covering both worlds. I have had it about a month and use it many times each day and have had no problems. I mostly use it for espresso using freshly ground beans and it works well for that. I have also used it with pods a couple of times and that seems to work well also. I think the Cappucinator attachment is pretty cool. Basically, you pour some cold milk in a cup, stick a little plastic hose from the Nina’s Cappucinator attachment in to the cup, place another cup under the Cappucinator and turn it on and out comes steamed milk with froth. I get a nice froth with 2%, not so much with skim. One other reviewer notes that you need to prime the pump for making espresso after each of the steam wand and/or cappucinator. This is true but it is a simple and quick process and doesn’t bother me. Overall, I’m very happy with this machine.

I purchased a new one of these over a month ago. After using it one time, it completely stopped working. I sent it to Saeco to be repaired or replaced. Saeco has not even looked at it yet, so I’m assuming it’s still going to be another week or two before it is returned. Ugggg. The machine is very cheap looking. The portafilter and water tank are very awkward to use. I had a Krups before. It was a much more solid machine.
